The Beginning of Something

I am starting this blog because I haven't shaved for a whole four days now and I have the beginning of what you might refer to as a mustache. I was in the bathroom admiring my manly facial hair when the words came into my head, “My attempt at growing a mustache.” At that moment I also thought that that would be a great name for a blog. There are many blogs out there discussing how cute their children are or expressing their views on current events. Well I don’t have any children yet and I don’t have a TV so I have no idea what is happening in the world so I wondered what I could possibly tell people out there. After a quick think I thought that the name of my blog would be a symbol for my life. My attempt at growing a mustache is a symbol of me trying to be a man and developing all the worthwhile attributes that I can while living in this world. So in this blog I will be providing a married college-age young man’s view of the world. To be true to the title of my blog I will try to dig up as many quotes and other such things as I can about mustaches. To start out I would like to quote Butch and Sundance: The Early Days.
Butch Cassidy: Listen, what do I call... what is your name anyway?
The Sundance Kid: Longabaugh. Harry Longabaugh.
Butch Cassidy: That's not an outlaw name. You don't have an outlaw face, either. You better do something about that.
The Sundance Kid: Yeah, like what?
Butch Cassidy: I don't know. Get yourself a nice scar or grow a mustache.
The Sundance Kid: I am growing a mustache!
Butch Cassidy: Where?

That’s pretty much how I feel about my mustache. Let me expound a bit about the hair follicles on my face: I barely started growing facial hair about a year ago. When I don’t shave for a couple of days I start to look like I woke up from under a bridge. I would like to eventually have a goatee but I only last a couple of days before something comes up that I would not feel good going to with my less than fabulous mustache, so I end up shaving and then sometime in the future trying again.
I am also starting this blog so that my family members might get to be a little more involved in my life and know what is going on. So a little about myself; I have been very happily married for one year, two months and 21 days. My dear wife makes my heart sing more than Pavarotti. She is a treasure to me and brings sunshine where there is darkness; I love her more than life itself. I am also attending college at Idaho State University (GO, GO, GO BENGALS, GO) where I am planning on majoring in physical education with an emphasis in exercise science. I am also planning on getting a minor in ethics. I chose my major because I felt that it would best prepare me for physical therapy school that I will start applying for in a year or two. You may think that my major and minor have nothing to do with each other and you would be right, they don’t; but, that is the reason why I chose that minor. It seems that everybody I know is doing exercise science and I’m not going to lie, that kind of irritates me. To get away from the overpopulated idea of just doing exercise science I decided to get a minor. So many people told me to just get a minor in Spanish because it would be easy. I deeply love the Spanish language and I am very happy that I can speak fluently, however, I feel that getting an education is not about what you already know or about what would be easy, an education is about developing your understanding of something that you would have no way of knowing otherwise. My minor in ethics, I feel will help me to better express how I feel in certain subjects. I don’t like to give my opinion about something that I know nothing about, which is why I feel that education is so important. Some other little things that I can tell you about myself are I really like sea food and pasta. My favorite colors are dark green and navy blue. The best movies in the world are the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Return to Me, a chick flick worth crying about. My favorite books are The Killer Angels and again The Lord of the Rings.
I feel that this “little” introductory post has gone on far too long so for those of you who might read this let me know what you think and feel free to ask any questions as long as they’re not too probing. I bid you all farewell, adieu, and adios until I decide to write more.

  2. Good luck with the mustache and everything. Remember: persistence.

I began mine in the Army, where I'd decided there would be fewer aesthetic critics.
